Great news for those having cavities on their teeth! Scientist had finally found an amazing drug that can grow your teeth back. As a result, you will never have to get a filling again.

Known as Tideglusib, it is a new drug that can stimulate stem cells in the pulp of teeth. The pulp is the source of new dentine which is the dense bony tissue beneath the enamel that forms the bulk of the tooth and is what get eaten away by tooth decay.

Actually, this medical drug was developed for Alzheimer disease which also happened to regrow teeth, meaning that teeth could repair cavities all by themselves.

In dental clinics, tooth decay is removed by drilling, then the cavity is filled with a material like amalgam or composite raisin and put the tooth into a cycle or drilling and refilling. Treatment like this can be so pricey as usually a single filling can cost up to $250.

Teeth can naturally generate dentine but only under certain conditions. For instance, the pulp need to be exposed through infection or Trauma. And even then, only thin layer of dentine will regrow which unfortunately isn’t enough to repair a cavity. This is where Tideglusib steps in. The drug works by turning off the GSK-3 Enzyme which is a protein that stops dentine from forming. Dailymail

Tideglusib would make cavity repair a lot easier. Currently, Researchers have inserted sponges soaked in Tideglusib info cavities which triggered dentine growth and the damage was repaired within six weeks.

However, so far Tideglusib has only been tested on mouse teeth, but scientists hope that the simplicity of the procedure will usher it into clinics soon in the market.
