A Cafe may no longer needs a Barista anymore when a robot Barista can make you coffee. In Japan, a Cafe which is run by a robot called ‘Sawyer’, can serve up to 5 cups of coffee at a time.
To order yourself a cup of coffee, customers just need to place their order through a vending machine and then have their QR code on their printed ticket scanned. After that, just wait for your coffee to be ready in a while as 1 cup of coffee will take about 4 minutes to make.
Although the robot Cafe is the latest in a series of similar measures in Japan to help solve labour shortages in its rapidly ageing society, it also raise question about the future of human labour although this cafe’s owner says using automation will keep coffee prices low which cost $3 (320 yen) only per cup.
The robot Barista, Sawyer is available at Henna Cafe in Tokyo’s downtown business around the shopping region of Shibuya.
