An extensive underground freight system will be constructed in Switzerland by the year 2030s allowing fleets of autonomous, unmanned vehicles to be capable of working 24 hours a day without traffic jam.
How it works?
Cargo will load by itself on the surface before descending into the tunnels.
Once underground, it will be able to travel undisturbed at speeds of 30km/h (19 mph). The system could carry everything from individual packages to waste materials. In 2015, Switzerland has successfully completed a feasibility study on it while a 4 hub system could be ready as early as 2030, with more cities on the roadmap soon.
