What is FTP software?
FTP stands for “File Transfer Protocol”. Using FTP, you can upload your files from your computer to your webhost. The webhost is a remote computer provided by your web hosting company where you can store files for your webpage. Since your files are stored inside your computer, you need to establish a connection with the webhost that is too far away from your computer.
Therefore, you will need to use FTP software to transfer files from your computer to your webhost. Here, we use a popular FTP software called Filezilla.
You can download FileZilla software (FileZilla Client) from Filezilla-Project website.
Select the format that suit operating system type to download the installation file and then double click to start install it. Follow its default instructions to complete the installation process.
For my case, my operating system is Windows.
How to use it?
Go to your start program to open up your installed FileZilla Client Program.
Before you can start upload any files to your webhost, you will need to setup a connection with your webhost by entering the connection details provided by your webhost company (Host, Username and Password).
Then, click on Quickconnect.
Alternatively, you can save your FTP connection details so that you can connect it directly the next time from your “Site Manager” icon at the left top with just one click. First, scroll your mouse to click on File >> Site Manager >> New Site (enter your site address), enter all your connection details there, click Connect.
